Join us for a preview reception to commemorate the opening of Caminos: Latino History of the Central Valley and to celebrate the elected Latino leaders of our great Central Valley

Former Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante will lead us in toast to recognize the opening of our exhibition and to celebrate the Latinos who are serving our community, including California Senator Melissa Hurtado, Fresno City Council President Esmeralda Soria, Fresno City Councilmember Miguel Arias, Kings County Supervisor Richard Valle, Tulare County Supervisor Eddie Valero, and many more (we are receiving confirmations daily)!

Initiated by the 2016 Board and seeded by a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts in 2017, Arte Américas took on an ambitious challenge – to tell the Latino history of the Central Valley. Over the last two years, our core research team conducted hundreds of interviews, collected photos, news articles, art, and memorabilia that highlights Latinos’ migration patterns and the contributions we have made to the Central Valley. From the Native Americans to the first Spaniards to enter the valley in 1772, to the Mexicans, Chicanos, Hispanics, Latino, Latinx, to the immigrants arriving today, this history is a Latino story at heart and an American story in spirit.

This history has brought us to today – a historic time in the Central Valley where Latinos now hold key leadership positions in the community.  It is a time to recognize and celebrate these accomplishments.
