.Since 2002, Fresno Filmworks is your local source for the independent film. Through our monthly film series and the annual Fresno Film Festival at the historic Tower Theatre, our all-volunteer nonprofit strives to cultivate a deeper appreciation of cinema, a greater understanding of the world’s cultures, and a meaningful movie experience that cannot be found at the commercial multiplex.

Giving back to the community keeps her young, and Nené Casares considers herself a “professional volunteer.” After working for The Fresno Bee for 40 years, she retired in 2008 after serving as the organization’s community relations events coordinator. Nené was involved with Arte Américas for 26 years, and she served as president of its board three times. She currently serves as board president of the Central California Women’s Conference. For Filmworks, Nené assists the venue director.

An Orange County native, Cassandra R. McGuire earned her Business Administration degree with an emphasis in accounting from Fresno State. She currently works in the arts community as the Operations Manager for the Fresno Arts Council. After interning for Filmworks in fall 2016, she joined the board’s development team where she coordinated stewardship for members and sponsors. For the 2018-19 season, Cassandra serves as board treasurer and interim development director.
