Spaces like gay bars, public parks, local diners, friend’s homes and backyards serve as a vital source of community building and validation for our diverse LGBTQ2+ community. This is especially true during times of intense repression when there are few spaces and places LGBTQ2+ people can go and find community. Community groups, clubs, and sports teams create a safe haven where LGBTQ2+ individuals find freedom from outside oppression. This panel is focused on historical LGBTQ2+ spaces and places in Fresno. Some of these spaces and initiatives may no longer be physically here but serve as important touchstones to Fresno's queer history.
This panel is in recognition of the history of the LGBTQ2+ spaces and their continued legacy in Fresno.
