ABOUT ANDREA TORRES
I am captivated by the physical structures that the human figure presents. While exploring feminists theories and the human form with oils and acrylics, a desire to have the figure consume my compositions was born. Scale and color are the main elements in the pieces I create. Large formats allow for the figure to create settings that become worlds on their own because of the size of the formal and the enlarging of the human anatomy beyond life size. I enjoy the thrill of including recognizable features of the form from afar, while creating mystical landscapes throughout the interactions of the different figurative planes up close. The color choices, throughout the phases of each piece, are an insight to my thoughts and feelings. I enjoy the contrast between light, pastel colors and heavy subject matter. Legends and Mexican folk tales inspire the subject matter in these pieces. However, my expressive use of color and brushstrokes gives the viewer a sense of freedom, allowing his or her own interpretations to create a personal experience within each piece.
Fres.Co is a grassroots space for conscious cultural workers, movement builders, entrepreneurs, and artists to share their gifts with the community and vis versa. Whether it’s co-locating for our “9-5” jobs or offering workshops on art making, policy/research, or spoken word we hope to create a physical location where minds can meld and dreams can manifest into reality.
