And, we’re back with the first ArtHop of 2018!
This time we’re featuring the work of a fellow Bitwiser, Suzanne Bertz-Rosa, strategic and creative director of Bertz-Rosa | Strategy & Creative. By trade Suzanne is a graphic designer. She finds it hard to separate designer from artist. Designers need to be precise. As an artist, she challenged herself to expose her own human touch in the pieces chosen for the exhibition. The work is not pristine; it is not perfect. It is the imperfection that she explores as part of her creative expression.
Delivered in five mini-exhibitions, “Pieces of Mind” chronicles Suzanne’s creative work for the last 20 years—from early drawings and photography to artistic conceits of vulnerability, snark, and happiness. “Pieces of Mind” is about vulnerability and growth—about breaking out of the designer constraints in hopes of discovering new thoughts and feelings.
Head on down to the first floor to see the work of Paul Mullins, who’s spent the last 20+ years trekking the backcountry of California’s Sierra Nevada mountains to capture unparalleled landscapes. Mullins’ approach to shooting focuses on slowing down to take in the scenery around him, allowing the day’s light to present the perfect illumination for his compositions. His images are stunning reproductions of the natural world, capturing the diverse and vivid landscapes found in nature’s gallery.
While you’re in the building, might we suggest stopping by Mabel’s Kitchen / Dolce Cucina for some deliciousness (if you haven’t tried the brownies yet, BIG MISTAKE). Once you’re sufficiently stuffed, grab a jolt over at Valparaiso Cafe & Roastery! Hot or iced, they are the masters of the coffee game.
