There is often talk about the future of the sculptures that are located on the Fulton Corridor. Should there be a return to traffic circulation, is there any possibility that this valuable art collection would be relocated? Absolutely not!
“My Administration will require that all of the artwork that is currently downtown will remain in our downtown core, in public ownership and in public space.
Further, it is my direction that we find ways to display the art work more respectfully. In many cases the artwork on the Mall seems more like an afterthought. The art work should have prominence. It should be well-lit and secure. We should include information about the many works, so that the public has greater access to the art and the artists. Finally, it is my hope that we do not view the current art work as the final, static collection, but that we design space to add local artists work, over time, reflecting the best of our public culture.”
Mayor Ashley Swearengin
