May is just around the corner. The weather is heating up and we have the perfect antidote with two refreshingly cool artists for May’s ArtHop. Byron Russell and Jacob Joaquin will show their work at Bitwise South Stadium beginning Thursday, May 3. Both artists bring a distinctive perspective, resulting in a series of unique intersections for the audience to explore.
Influenced by the convergence of art and technology, Russell and Joaquin explore patterns of shapes, diversified through repetition and variation. Exhibiting multiple iterations, the audience can examine a larger aesthetic language – the inspiration for the exhibit’s title and concept.
Sculptures, as well as algorithmically derived digital drawings and animations, will be on display on our second floor. SHAPE LANGUAGES contains new work created in recent months by Russell and Joaquin, who previously collaborated on the Heptagon, a pair of interactive sculptures which won an editor’s choice ribbon at the Bay Area Maker Faire 2014.
