Left brains and right brains abound and we have one of each lined up for May’s ArtHop. Not actual brains, but two awesomely talented artists who both utilize the guts of computers (and a few other things) to create beautiful pieces of assemblage in two totally different ways.
The right brain of this show is making a spectacular splash after a 50-year hiatus. Jackie Ryle has returned to painting! Jackie utilizes computer bits and pieces along with acrylic and mural paint on canvas, wood, and vintage devices, to tell the story of her inspirations and to pay homage to vintage devices with a modern techno twist. It has such a twist on it that Jackie coined a new term, TechnoSteamPhunk.
The left brain of this creatively smart sam’ich is Samuel J. Tekunoff. Sam is a multi-disciplinary designer and artist, and adjunct professor of graphic and web design at Fresno Pacific University. Which is a fancy way of saying this guy is pretty rad and smart. Sam experimented with 30 computer towers by taking them all apart and reconstructing them into amazing works of art using only super glue. Sam’s Reconstructed Hardware gives you a glimpse into the inner workings of a computer to highlight the beauty of these engineering masterpieces that we take for granted.
All of that is just the second floor! On the first floor artist Larry Smith, The Lightsmith, will be showing off a few of his vintage industrial light sculptures and metal art. These pieces are amazing and give you a look back into the beautiful craftsmanship of yesteryear. A few of the Steampunk community (like Steaming Madd) will also be in the house making the whole building feel like a TechnoSteamPhunk artwork come to life. There will also be food by Mabel’s Kitchen / Dolce Cucina, drinks, and fun all around! Stop by on your Hop and help us welcome our new artist to the building!
